Practical considerations
A consideration for this course is ensuring sufficient depth of academic analysis and contextual understanding in a subject that combines literature, history, and cultural study, particularly without prior language study. This course addresses this through structured preparation for Paper 2 (Roman Civilisation) and Paper 4 (Greek Literature), as well as Greek Civilisation and Classical Literature, where students must analyse classical sources and construct extended responses.
Students complete regular assignments focused on interpretation of texts in translation, evaluation of historical context, and development of structured arguments. Teacher feedback is aligned to Cambridge mark schemes, ensuring progression in analytical writing and critical engagement with source material.
